A SHORT HISTORY OF WANSTEAD

The town was historically part of Essex until the creation of the London Borough of Redbridge in 1965. During the Second World War, the tunnels of what is now Wanstead underground station were used for aircraft production. Today, the town is home to around 11,000 residents, including several famous names: EastEnders’s Kat Slater, played by Jessie Wallace, is a vibrant part of the Wanstead community.
